The Lowell Serenity Club has been a Michigan corporation since November 19, 1990. The club was formed with the idea of furnishing meeting space for addicted individuals and their families to meet and help each other recover from the effects of addiction. We leased space in downtown Lowell at 101 Main for nearly 30 years, but when the property owner died, his family bought out our lease and we were asked to leave.
In 2019 we applied for federal 501(c)(3) nonprofit status and were granted such. Along with the lease buyout and a private foundation grant we were able to move to a small space within the building owned by Flat River Outreach Ministries at 11535 Fulton E in Lowell. We moved in January 2020 and then the world shut down in March of that same year.
From 2020 to mid 2022 our membership and the number of people attending meetings dropped dramatically. However, in October 2022 we elected all new board members, who are unpaid volunteers with various skill sets that include business acumen, banking, management, accounting, hospitality, sales and general laborer. As a result, attendance at recovery meetings is slowly increasing. We now furnish space for Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous and Al-Anon Family Group meetings.
The goal of this website is to make it convenient to locate meeting times, promote addiction-focused functions geared to attract and retain new members and to help us reach our ultimate goal of owning our own building. If you have questions or comments, please contact us.
Even though we serve over 5,000 cups of coffee each year, we’d love to serve 10,000, including a cup to you!
